"If I overthink, I won't..." - Rohit Sharma gives brutally honest verdict on his IPL 2024 batting performance

Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma has admitted that he hasn't batted well enough for the team in the IPL 2024 season after scoring a half-century last night.
Despite Rohit Sharma's best efforts to help his team finish the current season with a win, the Lucknow Super Giants walked out as the winner in Wankhede. Rohit's exploits with the bat didn't receive enough support from the middle-order which shared just 31 runs between them. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, and Nehal Wadhera, all flopped in the 200+ run chase.
The only batsman that seemed to have complimented Rohit Sharma was batting all-rounder Naman Dhir. The number 7 batsman smashed a 28-ball 62-run knock at a daunting strike rate of 221.43 which included 4 fours and 5 sixes. However, it got too late for Naman to finish the game off in his team's favor as LSG won the contest by 18 runs.
What did Rohit Sharma say about his IPL 2024 season?
While speaking to Jio Cinema after the match, the former Mumbai Indians captain was quite critical about his own performance in IPL 2024. Rohit Sharma kept it extremely honest in front of the IPL digital broadcasters, claiming that he didn't perform as per his standards but even that didn't make him feel otherwise about his game.
Rohit Sharma's following comment depicted just what exactly experience does to a player. The 37-year-old admitted that despite the lean patch, he didn't overthink about his game and rather tried to maintain his positive mindset. Amid the poor form, the only thing Rohit focussed on was to keep with his practice and work on the mistakes he had made this IPL season.
"As a batter, I know I didn't live up to the standard but after playing for all these years, I know that if I overthink, I won't play well. All I try is to stay in a good mindset, right zone, keep practicing & improve on all the flaws in my game," Rohit said via Jio Cinema.
Rohit's IPL 2024 season
Despite being called out for not doing enough for his franchise as a batter, Rohit Sharma went through his best IPL season since the 2019 season when MI had won their 4th IPL title. That year, Rohit had scored 405 runs from 15 matches at a 128.57 strike rate.
From 2019 until this season, Rohit didn't touch the 400-run mark even once. In 2020 he had 332 runs followed by 381, 268, and 332 runs till IPL 2023. This time around without the added pressure of captaincy, Rohit Sharma expressed himself by scoring a total of 417 runs from all 14 league matches for Mumbai.
The most important thing about it was that Rohit's 400+ run tally included a century but had only one half-century which came yesterday. But with Mumbai's season coming to an end, Rohit Sharma's attention will shift to Indian team services as the Men in Blue gear up to take on Ireland, Pakistan, USA, and Canada at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 group stages from 5th June onwards.
