Cricket Commentator Aakash Chopra feels that if Ravindra Jadeja is pushed up the order in batting, his bowling might be affected. Aakash Chopra also said that we should not forget that Ravindra Jadeja is a bowling all-rounder and will always remain that.

Ravindra Jadeja came up with a marvelous batting and bowling show in recent India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test in Mohali. Batting at no.7, the left-handed batsman slammed an unbeaten 175 run-knock to take India to a mammoth total. Later, the left-arm spinner also scalped 9 wickets in the match.

Ravindra Jadeja Will Always Be Bowling All-Rounder: Aakash Chopra

On his Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra was asked whether Ravindra Jadeja should be promoted up the order in batting in Tests. To this, he replied that his bowling might be affected if this is done.

“The more you push him up the order, the level of Jaddu the bowler might fall that much, the emphasis on bowling might go down – you don’t want that to happen. He is an asset, use him like that. Even if Ashwin or Jaddu do outstanding batting, they will always be bowling all-rounders,” Aakash Chopra said.

Aakash Chopra also recalled an incident when Ravindra Jadeja was sent to bat up the order but the experiment did not work out.

“This is a very strong possibility. But Ben Stokes is a batting all-rounder, let’s not forget that Jaddu is a bowling all-rounder. Just remind ourselves, there was a Test match in England and he [Jadeja] was sent at No. 5 as well. He was made to bat up the order, was sent ahead of Ajinkya Rahane”.

“Of course, that experiment did not work out and we had criticized it that time because the conditions were different. We sent him up the order for the left-right combination but he is a proper player and wherever a proper player bats, it doesn’t make too much difference.” Chopra further said.

With Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round performance, India managed to crush Sri Lanka in the 1st Test. Jadeja also won the player of the match award for his performance. India posted 574-8 in 1st innings.

Later, they restricted Sri Lanka to 174 all-out and 178 all-out in both innings, winning the match by an innings and 222 runs. India now leads the two-match Test series 1-0. India vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test begins on March 12 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
