Shane Watson, a former all-rounder with the Rajasthan Royals, believes late Australian legend Shane Warne played a key part in his growth as one of the best all-rounders of all time.
Due to his injury issues, the 40-year-old remembers a time when he was not on the radar of Australian selectors.
But it was then that Warne decided to assist Shane Watson to fulfill his full potential by signing him to the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL’s first season.
Such incredible words. Warnie, we are all going to miss you so much. “In 2008, I was on the bottom of the Australian cricket heap. People began to become frustrated as I had been injured on and off for a couple of years. I couldn’t play the games since I was always wounded as soon as I started. ‘I’ll get you to Rajasthan,’ Warne said. I want to look for you and help you achieve your full potential.'”

Shane Watson’s IPL 2008 season was a watershed moment for him, as he went on to become a key member of the Australian team.
“For the four years that I played for Rajasthan, he was the captain coach. I was aware of it, but not to the extent that I was aware of how much it meant to him. Being a captain, he was never given a significant opportunity to lead Australia.”
Watson was the season’s breakout player, scoring 472 runs and taking 17 wickets to help the Royals win the title under Warne’s captaincy.
