Well, during the facilitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Kohli opened up about these special moments, as his 15-year brotherhood with Rohit was the most talked-about thing among the cricket fraternity ever since India crowned the T20 World Cup 2024 champions.

Virat Kohli was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times: “I don't know about breaking the internet but this is the first time in 15 years of playing together that I've seen Rohit show so much emotions on the field. When I was walking up the steps, I was crying, he was crying, and we hugged.

For me, that's going to be a very special memory from that day, because all said and done, after so many years, our only goal has been this. The only goal has been Indian cricket and the Indian flag. And that's what we take pride in.”

I didn't get the seniors' tears, but I do now: Virat Kohli recalls 2011 ODI World Cup

Thirteen years ago, Kohli had won the 2011 World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium, and back then, senior players like Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, and Harbhajan Singh couldn't hold back their tears.

Recalling the ODI World Cup 2011 triumph, Kohli admitted that he couldn't relate to his seniors' emotional outburst at the time, but now he fully understands what it means after winning his first T20 World Cup title. 

Kohli signed off by saying, “When I won the World Cup [in 2011], honestly, I couldn't connect with the emotions of the senior players at that point of time. I was like 'I don't understand why they are crying'. For me, it felt like 'Yeah, we won the World Cup. It's as easy as that. I was 22-23.”
