IND vs AFG: Aakash Chopra Strikes At Selectors On X Over Shreyas Iyer And Ishan Kishan’s Ouster

Former India opener Aakash Chopra has hit out at Indian selectors for dropping Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from the squad for the IND vs AFG T20I series. Aakash Chopra took to X (formerly Twitter) to question selectors over their squad selection process for the series.
Indian Team revealed the squad for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. Skipper Rohit Sharma is back to the squad to lead the team in the shortest format. Virat Kohli is also part of India vs Afghanistan T20I series.
However, players like Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, who were part of the recent series against Australia and South Africa, were absent from the squad. Both were also part of the squad during the Asia Cup 2023 and ICC World Cup 2023 last year.

Iyer Was Nominated As Vice-Captain In IND vs AUS Series: Aakash Chopra
Taking to Twitter, cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chorpa targeted selectors over Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan???s absence from the IND vs AFG T20I series. Chopra noted that Iyer was the vice-captain in the IND vs AUS T20I series in November 2023.
???Iyer was nominated as the Vice-Captain for the 5-match T20I series vs Australia. Was a part of the squad against SA too. Now, finds no place in the team vs Afghanistan???, Chopra wrote in his tweet.
He also questioned Ishan Kishan???s absence from the squad. Kishan was part of the IND vs AUS T20I series. Chopra highlighted how Shivam Dubey has been in and out of the squad in recent times.

Ishan Kishan Took A Break After IND vs AUS Series
Shreyas Iyer arrived late in the IND vs AUS T20I series and played the last two games. He slammed a crucial half-century in the 5th T20I. Later, he featured in the series against South Africa too.
Ishan Kishan took a break after the T20I series against Australia. He missed the entire India tour of South Africa 2023-24. However, he was expected to be part of the IND vs AFG T20I series as he played many T20I games for India last year. Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson have been picked as wicketkeepers for the IND vs AFG T20I series.
KL Rahul Also Snubbed From IND vs AFG Series
Meanwhile, KL Rahul was prominent another key member absent from the squad. Rahul played as a wicketkeeper in many series in recent times. However, he was snubbed from the shortest format last year. Recently, he led the team in the IND vs SA ODI series last month.
India vs Afghanistan T20I series begins on Thursday, January 11 with the first encounter at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The next two encounters will take place on January 14 and 17. Ibrahim Zadran leads Afghanistan in the series, which is the first bilateral T20I campaign between both sides.
