Former Indian cricketer Praveen Kumar in his recent interview with Lallantop spoke about his playing days at the IPL and how he was forcefully made to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He shared some deep secrets from the early years of the Indian Premier League and broke some stereotypes of the cash-rich league. Kumar played for RCB for the first three years of the IPL.

In the interview with Lallantop, he recalled how he was threatened by former IPL Chairman Latil Modi. He also spoke about how he was made to sign the contract papers with RCB without his knowledge.

“I did not want to play for RCB because Bangalore was quite far away from my place, I didn’t know English, and the food was not to my liking. Delhi is quite close to Meerut, which would have allowed me to travel to my home once in a while. However, there was a person who made me sign a paper. I did not know it was the contract. I told them I wanted to play for Delhi and not Bangalore. Lalit Modi called me and threatened to end my career” Kumar said to Lallantop.

The former Indian pacer then spoke about the ugly spat between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir that happened in IPL 2023. The two had a go at each other and the video became instantly viral on social media. Kumar, meanwhile, has a very different take on this.

Elder Brother Can Scold His Younger Brother: Praveen Kumar On Virat Kohli-Gautam Gambhir Spat

He addressed Gambhir as his elder brother and said that the elder brother can scold his younger brother in Virat Kohli.

“Great guy. He knows how to score runs. That is why he has reached such heights. Working on his body, proper diet – He knows it well. He is my younger brother,” Praveen said on Kohli.

“He is elder. He is my elder brother,” he said on Gambhir.

“It does not matter if the elder brother scolds the younger one. He is older, he can scold him.” Praveen said.

Speaking about Virat Kohli, he was recalled into the Indian T20I squad for the Afghanistan series. Rohit Sharma too was recalled and will lead the team in the three-match series. The duo is making a comeback into the Indian T20I side for the first time since the T20 World Cup 2022 last year. Kohli scored the most runs in the T20 World Cup 2022 and the ICC World Cup 2023 (765).

Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta, meanwhile said that the return of Kohli and Rohit in the Indian T20I squad for the Afghanistan series has pushed India back to square one. The likes of Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are unavailable for the series with injury concerns.

“To be very honest, I do not find any direction here for India in the last one year. If they had to go back to Kohli and Rohit…given the squads we had in the last one year, it is like going back to square one,” he said on Star Sports.

Praveen Kumar retired from international cricket in 2018 after being unsold in the IPL auction. He still plays in T20 leagues of retired cricketers. Kumar was part of the Manipal Tigers in the 2023 edition of the Legends League Cricket recently.
