Star all-rounder and vice-captain Hardik Pandya is set to lead the Indian national cricket team for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan next month at home. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will give rest to the majority of senior players and give young players a chance.

The BCCI named a strong team for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final, which will be played against Australia at the Oval in London starting on June 7. Rohit Sharma will lead the squad in their second WTC final. India will face the Afghanistan team at home after the one-off Test in England.

Afghanistan will tour India for the first limited-overs series, which is scheduled to take place between June 20 and 30. The BCCI will give rest to skipper Rohit Sharma, ace batter Virat Kohli, and veteran pacer Mohammed Shami to keep them fresh before the start of the West Indies tour in July and August.

Hardik Pandya, who isn’t part of the WTC Final, is set to lead the second-string team. Hardik led the Indian team in the ODI format against Australia earlier this year in the absence of Rohit Sharma. The players who impressed in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will get the chance in national team.

KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah will miss the series against Afghanistan due to injuries, respectively. The youngsters, like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, and Tilak Varma, could get their maiden call from the national team. They had a chance to make their international debut.

Following the series, India will tour the West Indies for two Tests, a three-match ODI series, and a three-match T20I series from July 12 to August 13. Later, The Men in Blue will play a three-match T20I series against Ireland. India have a hectic schedule before the start of the ODI World Cup 2023 at home.
