Virat Kohli, on Sunday (October 8), once again showed why he is regarded as one of the best players in the history of ODI cricket. The former India skipper starred with the bat to help the Men in Blue recover from a disastrous start and begin their campaign in the 2023 World Cup with a win over five-time champions Australia.
Chasing 200 runs on a tough pitch, Team India were off to a horrendous start as Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer failed to open their account and left the team reeling at 2 for 3. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul then joined hands to bail India out of trouble.
Virat Kohli also received a reprieve early in his innings as Mitchell Marsh dropped an easy catch when the India batting star was batting on only 12. He went on to score 85 runs and shared a decisive 165-run stand with Rahul. The right-handed batsman was looking set to score a well-deserved century but fell short by 15 runs.
Rahul, on the other hand, fell short of a well-deserved century by 3 runs as he remained unbeaten on 97. Team India eventually crossed the finishing line in the 42nd over with Rahul and Hardik Pandya sharing an unbeaten stand of 34 runs.
Virat Kohli in a jovial mood:
Virat Kohli’s energy rarely goes down and it was evident once again on Sunday. While players from both teams were struggling in the sweltering heat and humid conditions of Chennai, the former India captain looked energetic as always.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Virat Kohli could be seen dancing his heart out to entertain the fans in the stands despite the unforgiving weather conditions.

Team India will be in action next on Wednesday (October 11) when they lock horns against Afghanistan in Delhi. Unlike India, Afghanistan have started their campaign with a loss against Bangladesh and would be looking to bounce back. India, on the other hand, will be keen to extend their winning start.
