Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra feels that IND vs AUS 2nd ODI is a very important game for Shreyas Iyer. Chopra also feels that Shreyas Iyer needs to hit form in the match.
Shreyas Iyer was out of the national team due to an injury since April 2023. He made a comeback to the national team during Asia Cup 2023. However, just after playing one match against Nepal, Iyer was out of the playing XI due to a niggle.

Recently, Iyer played in the IND vs AUS 1st ODI. However, he faced a run-out after a goof-up with Shubman Gill and could only score 3 runs in the match. Iyer is expected to be the no.4 batsman for India in the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2023. However, his current form is yet to be analyzed as he has not played any big knocks post his return.
Shreyas Iyer Needs To Hit Form In IND vs AUS 2nd ODI: Aakash Chopra
While speaking on his YouTube channel, former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra said that IND vs AUS 2nd ODI is very important for Shreyas Iyer and he needs to hit form in the match.
“This game is very important for Shreyas Iyer. He needs to hit form. Earlier, there was an issue with his fitness and now we have not seen his form as well.
“He hit a couple of good shots in the Asia Cup and then got injured. There was not much to judge in Mohali as he scored only three runs and then got run out,” the 45-year-old said.
Chopra, who represented India from 2003 to 2004, also added that Team India needs to analyze Iyer’s form very closely ahead of ICC World Cup 2023.
“Shreyas Iyer will have to score runs here. As much as you want stability and want to back someone, you do not want to enter the World Cup with a player on whose ability you do not have any doubt but are not sure about his form. India will need to analyze this aspect very closely,” Chopra added.
While Shreyas Iyer was off the field due to injury, Suryakumar Yadav was picked as his replacement in the middle-order in ODIs. However, Yadav consistently failed to make a mark in ODIs in the middle-order. As a result, Shreyas Iyer was recalled for Asia Cup 2023 and ICC World Cup 2023.

India has named both Iyer and Yadav in the ICC World Cup 2023. In the IND vs AUS 1st ODI, Yadav slammed a fifty to come up with his dream knock in ODIs. However, he batted at No. 6 position in the match.
