IND vs AUS: Shreyas Iyer Will Find It Difficult To Make Comeback In Playing XI - Wasim Akram

Former Pakistan player Wasim Akram feels that it will be difficult for Shreyas Iyer to make a comeback in the Indian team or India’s playing XI. His words arrive after Shreyas Iyer missed a lot of games during Asia Cup 2023 due to his back issues.

After almost 5 months, Shreyas Iyer made a comeback to the Indian team for Asia Cup 2023. He played against Pakistan in the group stage scoring 14 runs. In the Super Four clash, he got injured just minutes before the game.

Later, KL Rahul replaced Iyer in the playing XI and went on to score a wonderful century against Pakistan. Later, Iyer did not play in any games of the tournament. In his absence, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan both played for the team.

Ishan Kishan also scored a marvellous knock of 82 runs in the group A clash with Pakistan. In the Asia Cup 2023 final on Sunday, Kishan scored an unbeaten 23 runs as an opener to drive India to victory by 10 wickets with opening partner Shubman Gill. Hence, Kishan has proved that he can bat as an opener or middle-order for India.

It Will Be Tough For Shreyas Iyer To Make A Comeback: Wasim Akram

During a conversation on Star Sports about IND vs SL final, Wasim Akram said that it will be tough for Shreyas Iyer to make a comeback to the team or the playing XI.

“I guess it was at the last minute (Shreyas got back spasms). He had it at the last minute just before the game. And, I think KL Rahul played for him and he went on to score a hundred against Pakistan.

Of course, it will be tough for him to make a comeback and play in the eleven to start off with. Now you have to play with the players who actually got runs in the middle order and present form,” said former Pakistan pacer.

Shreyas Iyer has missed many games this year due to his back injury. He was ruled out of IND vs AUS series in March due to back issues. He underwent surgery in April 2023 and underwent a rehabilitation process. The right-handed batsman made a comeback in Asia Cup 2023, however, he batted in just 1 game before his injury resurfaced.
