Former Indian all-rounder and World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev lauded young batter Shubman Gill for his impressive batting performances in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023. Kapil Dev described Shubman Gill as the future of the Indian National Cricket Team.

Shubman Gill played a pivotal role in helping the team secure the title in the Asia Cup 2023. The right-handed batsman was the leading run scorer in the continental tournament, amassing 302 runs in 6 innings with an impressive average of 75.50 and a strike rate of 93.50.

The 24-year-old started with a low score against Pakistan in the group stage. However, he made a strong comeback with two half-centuries and a remarkable century against Bangladesh. He scored an unbeaten 27 runs off 19 balls in the summit clash against Sri Lanka.

Speaking to PTI, Kapil Dev emphasized that Shubman Gill is a talented youngster and the future of Indian cricket. Dev said that the fans can look up to him in the future.

“This is a youngster who we can look up to. He is the future of Indian cricket. Very very proud to have a player of that ability in India,” said Kapil Dev.

BCCI Announces Squad For ODI Series Against Australia

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav have been rested for the first two games to manage their workload.

The Men in Blue will face Australia in preparation for the World Cup 2023, which is set to be played from October 5 to November 19. The first ODI will be played in Mohali on September 22, followed by two games in Indore and Rajkot on September 24 and 27, respectively.
