Team India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav is eyeing a spot in the national team for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Australia. Suryakumar will be available for Mumbai's second match of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, scheduled to commence on Friday, October 11.

The 34-year-old is currently leading the Men in Blue in the ongoing three-match T20I series against Bangladesh at home. Team India defeated the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led team in the first two matches of the series and took an unassailable 2-0 lead. India won the series with one match remaining.

Suryakumar Yadav Will Be Part Of The Ranji Trophy Team vs Maharashtra

Suryakumar Yadav has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that he will be available for selection for their second match in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. The batter is committed to representing the Mumbai state team in the longest format, as reported by Indian Express.

“He has informed the MCA that he will be part of the Ranji Trophy team which will play against Maharashtra,” a source in the MCA confirmed.

Defending champions Mumbai are set to play their second-round league match in the Ranji Trophy against Maharashtra from October 18 to 21. The game is scheduled to take place at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai.

Suryakumar Yadav Last Played For India In Tests In 2023

The batter is unlikely to be included in the Indian team for the upcoming three-match Test series against New Zealand later this month. However, the right-handed batter is hopeful to score runs in the Ranji Trophy to remind Indian selectors of his potential before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The selectors are likely to pick the Test squad during the same period as the second-round matches of the Ranji Trophy. Suryakumar made his debut against the Australia team in the BGT series at home last year, which remains his only appearance in the longest format for the Indian team.

The middle-order batter managed only 8 runs in the first innings and did not bat in the second on a spin-friendly surface in Nagpur. The Rohit Sharma-led team recorded victory by an innings and 132 runs against Australia.

Suryakumar Yadav's Record In First-Class Record For Mumbai

Suryakumar is known for his T20 prowess, but he has an impressive first-class career with 5,649 runs in 83 matches at an average of 43.12 and a strike rate of 63.80. The batter made his debut for Mumbai in first-class cricket in 2010. He continues to play for Mumbai despite his success in limited-overs cricket.

Sarfaraz Khan is expected to be included in India's squad for the upcoming Tests against New Zealand. However, his younger brother, Musheer Khan, is out of action due to an unfortunate injury. Suryakumar's inclusion is a boost for Mumbai's campaign in the highly anticipated Ranji Trophy season.
