IND vs AUS: "Welcome Back Ashwin Anna" - Fans React To Ravichandran Ashwin's Inclusion In India Squad For Australia ODIs
Published - 18 Sep 2023, 11:17 PM | Updated - 23 Aug 2024, 09:50 AM

The 37-year-old India National Cricket Team spin-bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has returned to India’s ODI setup ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which is set to be held in India.
With the Asia Cup done and dusted, the next challenge of the India National Cricket Team is a three-match ODI series against the Australia National Cricket Team. The ODI series opener will be held on September 22 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh.
The second ODI is set to be hosted by the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on September 24 and the third and final match of the series will be held at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on September 27. All the matches of the series are set to start at 1:30 PM IST.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin, who is undoubtedly one of the best off-spinners in the world, last played ODI cricket for India on January 21, 2022, against the South Africa National Cricket Team at Boland Park in Paarl.
Also, his last white-ball game for India was during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final against the England National Cricket Team on November 10 at the Adelaide Oval. After that, he was left out of the squad and he continued as a red-ball specialist in the Indian team.
However, that has now changed with his inclusion in the squad for Australia ODIs. Ravichandran Ashwin’s inclusion was made possible after Axar Patel suffered a left quadriceps strain during the Asia Cup 2023 game against Bangladesh. Also, Ashwin will have an opportunity to make his case strong for the World Cup by performing well in the Australia ODIs.
Overall, Ravichandran Ashwin has played 113 One Day International (ODI) matches for India and he has bagged 151 wickets at an average of 33.49, an economy of 4.94, and a strike rate of 40.6 with the best bowling figures of 4/25.
Here’s How Fans Reacted On X After Ravichandran Ashwin’s Selection In India’s ODI Squad

Maybe they picked Ashwin just to deliver deep psychological wounds to Australia

@ashwinravi99 should definitely make an impact if chance is given in upcoming ODIs and he should be the #8 for #WC23 #Ashwin No#1. #INDvsAUS

Sudden inclusion of Ravi Ashwin in ODI team is very surprising. He last plyaed ODI before 2.5 years. Not able to understand the thinking of selectors ahead of this world cup@CricCrazyJohns @mufaddal_vohra #INDvsAUS

Ravichandran Ashwin is back in ODIs.
Unfair that Sanju Samson is nowhere to be seen, be it the first two ODIs or the Asian Games or the reserve options. #TeamIndia #WorldCup2023— Manoj Dimri (@manoj_dimri) September 18, 2023
Good desicion to include Ashwin for the Australia Series.

Ashwin can be a good defensive option to have. When Ash was tried before there was no Kuldeep and Kuldeep has improved drastically. Now Kuldeep is the attacking one. So maybe they can complement

ASHWIN ANNA ??… WELCOME BACK TO ODI ‘s ??

It appears Surya's place in the ODI team is unaffected by his performances.
Selectors have picked Ashwin in the ODI squad despite knowing that he is a slow fielder ?♂️

Wait. Has ashwin just moved ahead of shardul in the pecking order? So we're just eliminating the option of having a seam bowling all rounder at #8? Interesting move, not sure having 3 spinners for one slot is an ideal scenario for #TeamIndia #INDvsAUS

Indian team’s squad has been announced for the ODIs against Australia. Can’t believe Sanju Samson is not in any of the team. Tilak Verma and SKY are in the team surprisingly. Ravi Ashwin is back and I feel he’ll be in World Cup as well. #CricketTwitter
