IND vs AUS: "Will Be Concerned Going Into T20 World Cup With Yuzvendra Chahal As Lead Spinner": Wasim Jaffer

India’s astonishing defeat against Australia in the 1st T20I match has started to raise a lot of questions. The bowlers have been unable to restrict the opponent even after having a big score on board. We had seen in Asia Cup 2022 where the bowlers were unable to break partnerships at crucial junctions of the match.

The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal and Hardik Pandya got a lot of beating. It’s not at all a good sign when star bowlers get thrashed and now the opposition teams have started targeting main bowlers. Due to this approach, the bowlers now need to be more vigilant as they can’t bowl any freebies.

Wasim Jaffer on Yuzvendra Chahal

Wasim Jaffer was having an interaction with ESPNCricinfo and was asked about Yuzvendra Chahal. “I have seen that when the conditions are against him, he doesn’t seem to have a lot of variety. I will be concerned going into that World Cup with Yuzvendra Chahal as my main spinner. I will be looking at Ravi Bishnoi, he gives you something different,” said Jaffer.

“Even that one game that he (Ravi Bishnoi) played against Pakistan, I thought he bowled some difficult overs. There is (Ravichandran) Ashwin of course, we know what to expect from him and Chahal. But I will be keen to have a look at Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav. If Chahal is bowling like that, I will be worried,”  he added.

Yuzvendra Chahal’s form a Concern

The leg spinner needs to pull up his socks and produce match-winning spells. He conceded 42 runs in 3.2 overs with 1 wicket. The spinner was taken to the cleaners by the youngster Cameron Green which was quite unexpected. Chahal will have to be watchful now as the batters have started dominating him.

Captain Rohit Sharma would be in shock after seeing Chahal get whacked all around the park. The skipper has always shown faith in Chahal in times of crisis.

It would be interesting to see whether Bishnoi replaces him or Ashwin makes a case for himself in the upcoming T20Is. The management would be wondering what’s wrong with the team where each time a new problem arises.
