Former India pacer Zaheer Khan has made a bold prediction for Shubman Gill in the ICC World Cup 2023. Zaheer Khan feels that Shubman Gill will be the leading run-scorer in the tournament.

Shubman Gill has shown an impeccable form in ODIs in 2023. In 20 games, he has hit 1230 runs averaging 72.35. He has also shattered 5 centuries and 5 half-centuries including a double century.

Gill is the leading run-getter in ODIs this year in international cricket. He also rose to the 2nd spot in the ICC ODI rankings for batters. The right-handed batsman will be one of the openers for Team India in the ICC World Cup 2023.

Shubman Gill Is Going To Be Leading Run-Scorer In ICC World Cup 2023: Zaheer Khan

While speaking to India Today, Zaheer Khan heaped praises on Shubman Gill. The former left-arm pacer said that Gill is going to be the leading run-scorer in ICC World Cup 2023.

“Well, look at his year. Year 2023 has been a phenomenal year for him. He’s been scoring hundreds, double hundreds, across formats. Very consistent. I’ve actually mentioned that, he’s going to be the leading scorer for this tournament,” Zaheer Khan said.

Zaheer also added that Shubman Gill just needs to set his tone in the first few games in the tournament and it will turn out to be a great World Cup for him.

“That’s the kind of year he’s having. He’s got the potential. He’s batting in the top order. It all depends on how you set the tone for the tournament. You know, for a batter like him, If the first couple of innings he gets into the World Cup with nice innings under his belt, then it’s just going to be a really great World Cup for him. And I will not be surprised if he’s one of the leading run scorers for the tournament,” Zaheer Khan further said.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has been rested in the IND vs AUS match of the ICC World Cup 2023 as he was ill and could not recover in time. Australia skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first in the match. IND vs AUS match takes place at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
