Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Aakash Chopra has opined that the summit clash of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 could see the battle between the Men In Blue and the New Zealand National Cricket Team.

The Rohit Sharma-led India and the BlackCaps have been two of the most dominant teams in the ongoing edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup. The two teams are currently placed in the top two positions in the ICC World Cup 2023 Standings.

New Zealand have so far defeated England, Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan to occupy the top spot on the points table while India have registered victories against Australia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan and are in the second position on the table. Notably, both teams are undefeated at the moment.

Won’t be surprised if it’s India v NZ in the finals – Aakash Chopra

After New Zealand hammered Afghanistan by 149 runs to replace India at the top of the points table, Aakash Chopra took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to label the BlackCaps as an incredible team.

Aakash Chopra added that the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 could see a battle between India and New Zealand.

“What an incredible team New Zealand is. Won’t be surprised if it’s India v NZ in the finals. Really early call…let’s see how it eventually unfolds. #CWC23,” former India National Cricket Team opener Aakash Chopra wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Tom Latham is leading the Kiwis in the absence of Kane Williamson who will be out of action for at least 10 days after suffering a thumb injury.

Speaking after the win against Afghanistan, Tom Latham said that they have a good winning momentum heading into the matches against India and Australia.

“A pleasing start. Another great performance. We were put under pressure some times. The bowlers managed to take wickets when it was needed. We had lost three wickets in a short span of time. We thought of regrouping. They bowled fantastically well.

“We managed to capitalize. Glenn played a fantastic knock. The first 10 overs were superb. Mitch Santner coming in and doing his job. Pleasing all-round performance. I guess on the back of some good performances, it is pleasing. We have India and then Australia. Hopefully, the momentum will continue.”

New Zealand’s next challenge is against India as they will lock horns in the 21st match of the World Cup 2023 on October 22 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.
