Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra was impressed with left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling performances in the Super Four stages of the Asia Cup 2023. Aakash Chopra highlighted Kuldeep Yadav’s wicket-taking ability against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, respectively.

Kuldeep Yadav picked up five wickets for 25 runs against Pakistan, followed by four wickets for 43 runs against Sri Lanka. The chinaman spinner played a pivotal role in helping the Rohit Sharma-led team secure a spot in the final of the Asia Cup 2023, scheduled for September 17.

Kuldeep Yadav Has Bowled Superbly – Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra lauded Kuldeep Yadav‘s exceptional wicket-taking ability in recent matches, despite India not being overly dependent on spinners.

“The good thing about the Indian team is that they are not over-dependent on their spinners, although Kuldeep Yadav, what a bowler he is. Five wickets in one match and four in the next,” Chopra said.

“He has taken nine wickets in total although India have taken only 18 wickets in these two matches overall. So 50% of the wickets have been taken by just one man. He has bowled superbly,” he added.

The left-arm wrist spinner broke the partnership between Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka. He dismissed both batters in consecutive overs. He rattled the stumps of Kasun Rajitha and Matheesha Pathirana in his final over to secure the victory.

Jassi Jaisa Koi Nahin – Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra lauded Jasprit Bumrah for providing two early wickets, despite the fact that the pitch wasn’t helpful for seamers. He pointed out that three early wickets contributed to the success of the spinners in the middle overs.

“Bumrah started it. He picked up two wickets. This is why we say Jassi jaisa koi nahin. He is a mighty bowler. It seemed like this pitch had slightly less help (for the seamers) compared to the Pakistan game because this pitch was extremely dry,” Chopra added.

“In such a case, for him to take two wickets at the start and Mohammed Siraj to pick up a wicket, you had taken three wickets and said tata bye-bye to the top three. If you have bid goodbye to Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis, you have already broken the opposing team’s back slightly,” he concluded.

Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets for 33 runs in his 10 overs. Axar Patel went wicketless in his five overs, but he contributed 26 crucial runs while batting with tailenders.
