Former India batsman, Aakash Chopra spoke on Suryakumar Yadav ahead of India’s match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023 on Friday (September 15th) and wanted the 32-year-old player to replace Ishan Kishan in the playing eleven for the Men in Blue.
While speaking on his official YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that Suryakumar Yadav should be included in the playing squad of India and added that ‘when will you play him if you don’t play him now’.
The 45-year-old former India player felt that Suryakumar still hasn’t been able to make a mark in the 50-over format since he doesn’t get enough chances to play and that is why Aakash Chopra wants him to be added in the squad.
“Can Suryakumar Yadav be played? I will say he should be played as well. Suryakumar Yadav should be played because when will you play him if you don’t play him now? The fact is he hasn’t yet cracked the ODI template. He hasn’t been able to catch the pulse of ODI cricket,” Aakash Chopra said.
The former India player desired to see SKY playing for Men in Blue in the upcoming matches in the Asia Cup 2023 and also in the three-match ODI series against Australia.
Aakash Chopra feels the more Suryakumar Yadav plays in the ODI format, he will gain confidence before the start of the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
“So if he hasn’t been able to do that and you don’t play him now also and in the three ODIs against Australia as well, when will you play him? Then you don’t get prepared fully as you will say that your 14 are certain but you have taken the 15th on gut feeling, potential and promise,” he added.

The 45-year-old added that Ishan Kishan should be excluded from the first eleven to make space for Suryakumar Yadav.
“So I will say, you should play him, but your question will be in place of whom because Virat (assuming Shreyas plays in his place) has already sat out. So I will say play him in place of Ishan Kishan,” he further added.
India have already qualified for the finals of the Asia Cup 2023 and will take on Sri Lanka on Sunday (September 17th).
