Virat Kohli is one of the five players rested for India’s last Super 4 game in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The Indian team management has made a number of changes to the playing eleven that played against Sri Lanka for the ongoing game against Bangladesh at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

India have already qualified for the final after winning both of their first two Super 4 games. The Rohit Sharma-led side thrashed Pakistan by a record margin of 228 runs before registering a hard-fought win over Sri Lanka. India were bowled out for just 213 against Sri Lanka but went on to win the game by 41 runs thanks to some fine performances from the bowlers.

The Men in Blue will lock horns against defending champions and home team Sri Lanka in the title decider. The mouth-watering clash against the Islanders is scheduled to take place on Sunday (September 17) in Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium.

Fans react after Virat Kohli is rested for the Bangladesh game:

With a place in the final already secured, India have made as many as five changes to the playing eleven that played against Sri Lanka earlier this week. Speaking at the toss, India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav have been rested for the match.

The five players have been replaced by Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur, and Prasidh Krishna. The decision to rest Virat Kohli, however, is dividing opinions. Many believe that the team management was right to rest the senior batsman ahead of a busy period that would see India play the Asia Cup final, a three-match ODI series against Australia, and the World Cup.

However, a few other sections of the fans believe that the team management should not have taken such a call and let Virat Kohli play as many games as possible to stay in the best of form for next month’s World Cup. In three innings of the Asia Cup 2023, Virat Kohli has registered scores of 3, 122* and 4. While some fans slammed the decision, some even went on to allege that it was done to stop Virat Kohli from reaching 50 ODI tons.
