India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets on Saturday, October 14 in Ahmedabad. This was India’s eighth win in 50-over World Cups against Pakistan since 1992. India produced a dominating Pakistan to beat Pakistan comprehensively in the match.
The build-up to the India-Pakistan match was huge as usual but Pakistan failed to live up to the billing. India won the toss and asked Pakistan to bat first. They were looking good to score above 300 after being 155/2 at one point.
Babar Azam’s dismissal in the 30th over triggered a batting collapse for Pakistan who lost their last eight wickets for just 36 runs. This was after they came into the game with a record chase behind. Every Indian boaler barring Shardul Thakur took two wickets each.
India chased down the score inside 31 overs after Rohit Sharma gave the team a brilliant start. He scored 86 off 63 balls to follow up his century against Afghanistan. Shubman Gill playing his debut World Cup game was out for a classy-looking 16 off 11 balls. Virat Kohli for once was out on a low score. Shreyas Iyer (53*) and KL Rahul (19) then added an unbeaten 36-run stand to take India home.
