India National Cricket Team keeper-batter Ishan Kishan might soon make a return to the national side in the T20I format. As per the reports in the PTI, it is learned the left-hander is likely to be included in the team for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh National Cricket Team.
After the Test series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, both teams will be locking horns with each other in a three-match T20I series. The first game of the series will be played on October 7th in Gwalior, followed by the second game to be played in Delhi on October 10th, with the last match to be played on October 13th in Hyderabad.
With a very small gap between the Bangladesh Test and T20I series and the New Zealand Test series, it is learned that players who are part of the Test set-up are likely to be rested. There are reports which claim that Rishabh Pant might also be given a break as per workload management requirements.
It is learned that if Rishabh Pant is rested for the T20I series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, doors might get open for Ishan Kishan. The keeper-batter played his last international game for the India National Cricket Team during the South Africa tour.
Ishan Kishan, who was a regular member of the Indian team in all three formats in 2023, cited mental fatigue and pulled out of the Test series against South Africa, which was played in December last year. After that, he was asked by then-head coach Rahul Dravid to feature in the domestic circuit to make his way back to the team.
Despite the request by the BCCI as well as Rahul Dravid, Ishan Kishan didn't agree as he kept staying on the break, and this didn't go well with the governing body. They decided to take strict action on the keeper-batter as he wasn't given the opportunity in the team again.
Ishan Kishan was removed by the BCCI from the central contracts. The keeper-batter then made a return to cricket in the Indian Premier League. But even after that he didn't feature for his domestic team and kept himself away from the the game.
Ishan Kishan makes a sensational return to domestic cricket
However, the senior selectors conveyed to him that he might miss the chance to play India in his prime. He then made a staggering return to cricket as he represented Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu tournament and slammed a glorious century on his return.
After that, he made a return to Duleep Trophy 2024 as well in the second round. The keeper-batter, while playing for India C, slammed another sensational ton. He ended with the innings of 111 runs off 123 balls and also slammed 14 fours and 3 sixes in his innings.
With Kishan making a dominating return to domestic cricket, he might have put questions in the minds of selectors. It remains to be seen if he will make a comeback to the Indian team or not.
