Former England skipper Joe Root praised veteran Indian batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, calling them consistent performers across the formats for a long time. Joe Root acknowledged the challenge of finding replacements for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the Indian cricket team.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been impressive with the bat in the Asia Cup 2023. The Indian skipper scored three consecutive half-centuries after his failure against Pakistan in the first match. Kohli, on the other hand, scored his 47th ODI century in the Super Four match against Pakistan.

That’s Not For Me To Say – Joe Root

In an interview with the Times of India, Joe Root expressed admiration for the skills of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, considering them players to learn from.

“That’s very difficult to answer. That’s not for me to say. The two of them are wonderful players across all formats, leading players, and have both had to shoulder a lot of pressure for a number of years,” Root told The Times of India.

“When it comes to representing India, it’s impressive how consistent they’ve been for such a long period of time. And you know, as a fellow professional, you look at them, you look to learn and take lessons from their game,” he added.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have not announced their retirement from cricket, as they still have cricket left in them. Team management would strategically plan the transition of these key players to maintain the team’s long-term performance and success.
