Indian captain Rohit Sharma achieved a significant milestone with a dominant performance against Pakistan in the 12th match of the ICC World Cup 2023. Rohit Sharma surpassed Virat Kohli’s tally in the list of most runs for Team India in the history of ODI World Cups.

Rohit Sharma continued his excellent form with the bat as he scored 86 runs off 63 balls, six fours and six sixes, against Pakistan in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14. The Indian skipper helped the team secure a seven-wicket victory with more than 19 overs to spare.

Virat Kohli Dominated In Run Chase Against Pakistan

The right-handed batter began with a boundary in Shaheen Afridi’s bowling. He formed a 56-run partnership with Virat Kohli (16) for the second wicket after losing Shubman Gill early. He also put up a 77-run partnership for the third wicket with Shreyas Iyer (53*).

The 36-year-old dominated Pakistan’s pace attack, including Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, and Haris Rauf, with a fearless approach. He hit fifty off 36 balls, despite the early dismissals of Gill and Kohli. He unsettled Shadab Khan and Mohammed Nawaz with well-timed shots.

Rohit Sharma surpassed Virat Kohli to become the leading run-scorer for India in 50-over World Cups. Rohit has amassed 1195 runs in 20 World Cup innings at an impressive average of 66.38 and a strike rate of 101.96, while Kohli has scored 1186 runs at an average of 49.41.

Legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar tops the chart for the most runs for India in ICC ODI World Cups. Sachin scored 2278 runs in 45 matches with an average of 56.95, including 6 centuries and 15 half-centuries. Sourav Ganguly is in fourth place with 1006 runs to his tally.

Following the victory, the Rohit Sharma-led team moved to the top place in the 10-team points table with 6 points. The Men in Blue will take on Bangladesh in their next match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday, October 19.
