As India gears up for a crucial Test season, Sarfaraz Khan has hailed captain Rohit Sharma for his influence and impactful leadership, comparing him to Aamir Khan’s iconic character in the film Lagaan ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Sarfaraz Khan said that Rohit’s influence goes beyond his cricketing skills, as he described the Indian cricket team captain as a 'big brother' who creates a supportive and respectful environment in the team.

The Mumbai batter said that this camaraderie has developed unity and positivity among the players. Sarfaraz Khan, who made his Test debut under Rohit's captaincy earlier this year during India's home series against England, had a great experience with the nurturing atmosphere that Rohit Sharma built around himself.

He added that the Indian captain, in a high-pressure environment, ensures that every player, regardless of their experience or status, is treated with the same respect and encouragement. Notably, the right-handed batter seized the opportunity and made 200 runs in just three matches, with three fifties during his maiden Test series.

His aggressive batting at the middle order proved immense help for India to win the series against England because it showed not only his flair for the game but also the confidence that the leadership had instilled in him.

He treats everybody equally: Sarfaraz on Rohit

Sarfaraz credited Rohit's influence for changes in his confidence and game because he could now settle into the international arena and go about his game with an undaunted belief. He added that Lagaan is his favorite movie, and Rohit Sharma is the Indian cricket team’s Aamir Khan.

Sarfaraz Khan was quoted as saying by Jio Cinema: “He is very different. He makes you feel very comfortable. Rohit Sharma is like a big brother. We enjoy it a lot while playing under him. First, I saw him from the outside; now I have played with him to experience it. He doesn't treat us like juniors; he treats everybody equally.

Lagaan is my favorite movie. Like how Aamir Khan made that team in the movie, in my eyes, Rohit Sharma is like Aamir Khan for this team.”

He is a goat: Dhruv Jurel on Rohit Sharma

Meanwhile, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel expressed admiration for Rohit’s effortless batting style, sharing how he was left in awe while watching the senior opener perform up close.

The 20-year-old also made his Test debut earlier this year under Rohit’s captaincy during India's series against England, and the Indian skipper’s composed approach left a lasting impression on him.

Jurel said on Jio Cinema: “When we used to watch him on TV, people used to say, 'He has a lot of time (to play his shots). But, when you watch it from close, you realize that the deliveries that you struggle with—the deliveries for which your bat doesn't flow properly—he is easily hitting them into the stands. His pull shot is very famous. Watching these things from up close is special. He is a goat.”

Notably, Jurel and Sarfaraz both have been named in India’s squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19 in Chennai.
