IND vs ENG: 5 Indian Batsmen With Most Runs In Tests vs England

India will host England in a five-match Test series in January 2024. The England team has been announced and the Indian squad will be announced soon for the same. The first Test will be played in Hyderabad commencing on January 25. The current lot of Indian batters have a good mix of experience and young talent and many of them would be playing their first-ever Test series against England.

However, few of the Indian batters from the current lot have a lot of experience against England and have scored many runs against the English side in the Red-Ball format. These players can be crucial for India’s victory in the upcoming Test series if some of them are considered again to be a part of India’s squad against England in the Test Series.

Here Are Five Current Indian Batters With Most Runs Against England In Test Cricket

1. Virat Kohli:

As usual, Virat Kohli is the most experienced against England in the current lot and has a terrific record against them in Test cricket. He has played 28 Test matches against England and has scored 1991 runs against them in 50 innings at an average of 42.36. Virat has smashed nine half-centuries and five centuries in Tests against England with a personal best of 235 against them. However, he has also been out on a duck six times against England which is the most by him against any team.

2. Cheteshwar Pujara:

Cheteshwar Pujara may not be in the current scheme of things of the Indian team but he has a really good record against England in Test cricket. He has played 27 Test matches against England scoring 1778 runs in 49 innings while maintaining an average of 39.51. Pujara has smashed seven half-centuries and five centuries against England, including a double hundred when he scored 206* against them.

3. Ravichandran Ashwin:

Surprisingly, Ravichandran Ashwin also makes the list among current Indian batters with the most runs against England and he is ahead of a lot of proper batters. Ashwin has played 19 Test matches against England and has amassed 970 runs in 31 innings against them at an average of 37.31. He also has six half-centuries and a century against England in Tests which came in 2021 in Bengaluru when he scored 106 in the second innings.

4. KL Rahul:

KL Rahul also boasts an interesting record against England. In the most recent tour between England and India where the Indian team went to England in 2021, KL Rahul got his name on the Lords Honours’ Board for scoring a hundred in the Lords. He has played 12 Test matches against England and has scored 847 runs in 22 innings at an average of 38.50. Rahul has three centuries against England to his name and only one half-century in Test cricket. He missed out on a double hundred against them, getting out on 199 back in 2016.

5. Ajinkya Rahane:

Ajinkya Rahane is also out of the Indian Test squad currently but he has a good record against England in Test cricket. Like KL Rahul, Rahane also has his name on the Lords Honours’ Board which he got after scoring a hundred in Lords during the Test series in 2014. The hundred scored by him at Lords is the only hundred he has got against England. Rahane has scored 840 runs in 38 innings against England at an average of just 22.70. He has six half-centuries and a century against England.
