Axar Patel gets behind Yashasvi Jaiswal in damaging Bazball
India and England are facing each other in the first Test of the five-match series at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. On the first day of play, Yashasvi Jaiswal gave England a taste of their own medicine as he took on the bowlers early on batting with an aggressive approach. Axar Patel said that Jaiswal entertained them early with his attacking knock in Hyderabad on day one of the first Test on Thursday, January 25.
Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 76 off just 70 deliveries after the end of the first day’s play as he took a liking to the England spinners, especially debutant Tom Hartley. The 22-year-old Indian opener smashed Hartley for two sixes off his very first over to set the tone for the Indian innings and put on 80 runs for the first wicket with the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.
Axar Patel, who took two wickets against England on the first day of the Test said while speaking at the press conference after the day’s play on Thursday that the team enjoyed Yashasvi’s batting and how he attacked the spinners very early on in the innings.”We enjoyed the way Yashasvi was batting and he took on the spinners from the very first over. It was very good to unsettle them early,” said Axar.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Smashed His Second Test Half-Century
Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a brilliant performance in his fifth Test match while playing against England on the first day of the opening Test. The young opener showcased his batting prowess by playing some aggressive cricket. He smashed nine fours and three sixes in his innings as he dominated the final session of play. Jaiswal’s superb strike rate and fearless approach helped India to reach a strong position at 119/1 at the stumps. India is trailing by 127 runs and is expected to take a lead on the second day.
Earlier, England was bowled out for 246 after a great display of bowling by the Indian spinners. England skipper Ben Stokes played a brilliant knock scoring 70 off 88 deliveries. After winning the toss, Ben Stokes decided to bat first and England started with their Bazball approach on a positive note, with the openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley putting on a 50-run stand for the first wicket.
However, the Indian spinners R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel spun their web to trap the English batters and sabotage their plan to play aggressive cricket. The pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets each while Axar Patel pitched in with two wickets, including the scalp of the dangerous Jonny Bairstow.
Yashasvi Jaiswal completed his second half-century in Test cricket but at the start of the second day, he was caught and bowled by Joe Root after scoring 80 off 74 deliveries. This is Yashasvi Jaiswal’s first Test against England and he impressed everyone with his performance in his very first innings against England. It was also his first innings on Indian soil. The youngster has a lot of potential and can be a future batting star for India.
