Ben Stokes has thanked the Barmy Army for their support throughout the recently-concluded first Test between India and England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Despite being firmly on the back foot for the first two days, England fashioned a great comeback and stunned Team India by 28 runs to take the lead in the five-match series. England???s chances of winning the Test looked as good as over after India bowled them out for 246 on day one of the Test before coming up with a strong reply with the bat.

Riding on half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja, India scored 436 runs in their first innings to take a big lead of 190 runs. However, it was not enough for the Rohit Sharma-led side to beat England as the visitors bounced back in style to clinch a famous win.

Ben Stokes thanks Barmy Army:

The Ben Stokes-led side scored 420 runs in the second innings to set India a target of 231 runs. Ollie Pope was the star with the bat as he played a stunning knock of 196 runs. After England???s middle-order batsmen failed to fire, Pope stood firm at one end and shared crucial stands with lower-order batters to take his team to a 400-plus total.

After Pope???s show, Tom Hartley led England???s charge with the ball. The left-arm spinner, who was playing his first-ever Test, starred with the ball to power his team to a famous win. He picked up 7 wickets for 62 runs as India were bowled out for 202 runs. Captain Rohit Sharma (39) top-scored for his team and was the only Indian batsman to reach the 30-run mark.

After the game ended, Ben Stokes took to X to thank the Barmy Army for their support, writing: ???Greet week @BarmyArmy our MOM as always thank you.???

Ben Stokes also called the win over India his greatest as a captain. Speaking in the post-match presentation ceremony, the England captain said: ???Since I have taken the captaincy on, we have had a lot of fantastic moments as a team. We???ve got a lot of great victories, we???ve been part of some amazing games. Where we are and who were playing against, this victory is probably, 100% definitely, our greatest triumph.???

The second Test of the series is scheduled to be played in Vizag on February 2.
