India star Shreyas Iyer has said he is not focusing on England’s ‘Bazball’ approach in Test cricket as he prepares for the five-match Test series. The highly-anticipated Test series is scheduled to get underway on January 25 in Hyderabad.

Shreyas Iyer has been named in India’s squad for the first two Tests of the series. While England have not won a Test series in India since the 2012/13 season and were thoroughly outplayed on their last two visits to the country, many believe that the current England team can spring a surprise or two.

India have not lost a Test series at home since the 1-2 loss against England in 2012/13 and will be keen to extend their unbeaten run in the upcoming series. However, it won’t be easy. England have not lost a Test series since Ben Stokes replaced Joe Root as the Test captain in 2022.

Under his captaincy, England beat New Zealand, India, and South Africa at home in 2022 while playing unprecedented attacking cricket. Many expected them to struggle in Pakistan towards the end of the year but they went on to register a historic 3-0 series win in the Asian country.

Shreyas Iyer on facing England:

While only time will tell how England perform in the upcoming Test series, Shreyas Iyer is not worried about them. He was recently asked to share his views on Bazball and the Mumbai star made it clear that he is not focusing on England at all. The right-handed batsman emphasized the significance of maintaining focus and adhering to his game plans.

“To be honest, I don’t really think about what the opposition is going to do and what kind of mindset they are going to come with,” said Shreyas Iyer while speaking to JioCinema.

“It’s important we stick to our own plans and focus on our own abilities rather than concentrate much on our opponents. So, these are the small qualities we have to keep in mind and look forward to put our best foot forward and see to it that we seize the moment,” he added.

Shreyas Iyer recently returned to the Ranji Trophy for the match between Mumbai and Andhra. He scored 48 runs in the first innings and did not get the chance to bat in the second innings as Mumbai won the game by 10 wickets.
