The Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team went head-to-head with the Jos Buttler-led England National Cricket Team in the 29th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29.

England won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Indian captain Rohit Sharma was quite happy with the decision as he revealed that they were anyways looking forward to batting first. Also, both the teams entered the clash with no changes in their playing XI.

Batting first, Rohit Sharma once again provided India with a flying start with his attacking brand of cricket. However, the opening duo only added 26 runs together before Shubman Gill fell to a Chris Woakes delivery in the fourth over for 9.

After the dismissal of Gill, Virat Kohli joined Rohit Sharma in the middle and there were high expectations from the batting greats to provide India with an excellent start. However, Kohli looked scratchy and was eventually cleaned up for a 9-ball duck.

Soon Shreyas Iyer also fell for 4 to a short ball and was slammed by fans for weakness against the delivery. Next came KL Rahul and he provided much-needed support to his skipper. Together they batted brilliantly and attacked loose balls at times. They built a great 91-run partnership in 111 balls before KL Rahul was dismissed by David Willey in the 31st over.

In the end, Suryakumar Yadav played an amazing 49-run knock off 47 balls, with 4 fours, and Jasprit Bumrah supported him well with his 16-run knock to power India to a good total of 229/9.

Defending the target, Indian bowlers were all over the English team and they annihilated the batting unit. All Indian bowlers, barring Mohammed Siraj, looked exceptional and they bowled brilliant lines and lengths.

The veteran pacer Mohammed Shami was the top performer for the side as he bagged a sensational four-wicket haul and didn’t let the batters breathe. Also, Jasprit Bumrah bagged three wickets, Kuldeep Yadav got two, and Ravindra Jadeja got one wicket. England were bundled out for 129 in 34.5 overs to lose the match by 100 runs.
