Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is determined to make an international comeback during the upcoming five-match Test series against England at home. Mohammed Shami expressed confidence in his rehabilitation progress at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Mohammed Shami has been out of action since the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup final due to an ankle injury. The pacer reportedly played through the ankle issue during the World Cup campaign. He was ruled out of the two-match Test series in South Africa.

My Rehabilitation Is Well On Track – Mohammed Shami

The Indian Express reports that Mohammed Shami is likely to be absent from the first two Tests of the home series against England. Nevertheless, Shami remains optimistic about his rehabilitation, aiming for his comeback during the upcoming Test series.

“My rehabilitation is well on track and the medical experts at NCA are happy with my progress. There is slight stiffness in my ankle but that’s fine. I have started my training sessions and I believe I will be able to make a comeback in the England series. I am targeting the series for my return,” Shami told TOI on Monday.

The 33-year-old was the top wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup. Shami took 24 wickets in seven matches at an impressive average of 10.70, including three five-wicket hauls. Notably, he recorded India’s best ODI bowling figures (7/57) during the semi-final.

The Indian cricket team will host the England team as part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The five-match Test series is set to commence on January 25 in Hyderabad, followed by matches in Vizag, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala.

It Was A Brilliant Comeback By India – Mohammed Shami

Shami acknowledged the collective brilliance of India’s bowlers during the second Test for a remarkable comeback that leveled the series in South Africa. He commended the current Indian pace attack, emphasizing their capability to challenge any team in the world.

“We did well in the second Test. Everyone pitched in and our bowling effort was brilliant. It was a brilliant comeback by India to level the series. Unfortunately, I missed it because of injury but I want to get back to competitive cricket as soon as possible. Hopefully, you can see me back in action against England,” Shami added.

“I can say this with confidence that we are one of the world’s best pace attacks. You saw that during the ODI World Cup. In the SA series, Jasprit and Siraj bowled brilliantly in the second Test. All I can say is that our pace attack is good enough to challenge any team in the world,” he concluded.

Ahead of the England Test series, India is set to compete in a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan on home soil. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have been granted rest. Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar are included in the squad.
