IND vs ENG: Ollie Pope Undergoes Shoulder Surgery, Primed For Mid-November Return

England batter Ollie Pope has undergone successful shoulder surgery and is expected to return to cricket mid-November later this year. The batter was ruled out of the Ashes series with a shoulder injury.

He will no longer play in the England summer and will target some white-ball cricket to get him prepared for England’s tour to India next year. England will play a five-match Test series against India in January-March next year on spin-friendly tracks. The Test matches will be played in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala.

“The shoulder is as good as it can be at this point. I had surgery a couple of weeks ago now, I’m happy to get past that and I’ve got another three or four months of recovery to get it right,” he said after his successful surgery as quoted by The Cricketer.

Ollie Pope Targeting India Series For International Comeback

“I’ll be fit and available for selection from the middle of November, so whoever picks me for what I’ll take it on and hopefully get some cricket in before that India tour in January. That’s hopefully the last of the dislocations and fingers crossed I’ll be okay for the rest of my career.”

Pope was signed up by Gulf Giants in the International League T20 tournament in the UAE last winter. He is also on the radar of SA20 and Big Bash league franchises.

However, the real concern for Pope will be about getting red-ball match practice ahead of the India series. The last time India played a Test series against England, England drew the series 2-2. India were leading the series 2-1 before the Manchester Test was postponed. England managed to win the Manchester Test to level the series 2-2.

Currently, England are fresh from a drawn Ashes series after winning the Oval Test by 49 runs. Australia however, retained the Ashes courtesy of winning the series 4-0 at home last season.
