Rishabh Pant has been out of competitive cricket since the wicketkeeper sustained multiple injuries in a horrific car crash in December 2022. He last played an international match for India in December 2022, when India faced Bangladesh in a Test match.

In his absence, the Indian team have tried a lot of wicketkeepers in different formats like KS Bharat, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Jitesh Sharma, and KL Rahul. However, Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has mentioned Pant’s name in the mix for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Rishabh Pant is still nursing the leg injuries he sustained in the car accident and is nowhere near to playing cricket at the international level and that too World Cup cricket. However, reports have claimed that the southpaw will feature in the upcoming IPL 2024 for Delhi Capitals. If he plays in the IPL this year and performs well then he will become a strong contender for the T20 World Cup selection.

Rahul Dravid has mentioned quite a few keeping options and has also added Rishabh Pant to the mix. He said that the team will see what is the course of events in the next few months and how things pan out and then the decision will be made regarding the selection. He named Jitesh Sharma, KL Rahul, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Rishabh Pant in his statement.

“We’ve got quite a few keeping options. We saw a couple of guys in this series, whether it is Sanju or Jitesh. You speak about Rahul, there is Ishan, Rishabh… all of them are in the mix. We just have to see how things pan out in the course of next few months and then we can take a call on what’s the best way to go,” he said after India’s thrilling win in the final T20I in Bengaluru.

Rishabh Pant Was Also On The Delhi Capitals’ Table During The Auction

Rishabh Pant became the first active captain to take part in the IPL Auctions for his team Delhi Capitals. He was present at the table during the Auctions where Delhi had some valuable acquisitions including the likes of Harry Brook, Shai Hope, Tristan Stubbs, and Jhye Richardson. They had the largest purse remaining after the Auctions which was 9.90 crores.

There were earlier reports that Rishabh Pant would be back as the captain of the Delhi Capitals but looking at the circumstances and his condition, it is unlikely that he will lead the side. It is also possible that Rishabh Pant will play as an impact player for Delhi Capitals and will only participate as a batter as he is not fit enough to keep wickets.

Rishabh Pant’s participation in the IPL 2024 is not confirmed but he will likely be fit enough to play the season. he will look forward to playing in the IPL and performing at his best to be considered for a spot in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. If he returns to the Indian team, it will be a huge boost for him and as well as the team as he is a quality player with a knack for delivering in pressure situations.
