Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin heaped praise on his teammate Shubman Gill ahead of the India-England match in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. Ravichandran Ashwin highlighted Shubman Gill’s batting prowess, particularly in white-ball cricket.

Shubman Gill, who missed the first two matches of the ongoing tournament due to dengue, made his World Cup debut in Ahmedabad, scoring 16 runs against Pakistan. He scored 95 runs in three innings at a moderate average of 31.67 and a strike rate of 97.94.

Shubman Has Got Great Skill – Ravichandran Ashwin

In a video shared by the ICC on its Instagram handle, Ashwin stated that Shubman Gill possesses all the attributes desired in a batter, highlighting his exceptional footwork against spin bowlers.

“Shubman’s everything that you can desire for a batter, especially in the white ball format. He’s got this great skill to use his feet nicely against spin. You name it, he’s got it,” Ravichandran Ashwin said.

The 24-year-old has shown outstanding form in various white-ball cricket formats this year. The right-handed batter has scored 1325 runs in 23 innings at a remarkable average of 66.25. He has recorded five centuries and six fifties in the 50-over format in 2023.

Ravichandran Ashwin Might Play Against England In Lucknow

The Rohit Sharma-led team will lock horns with England in their next match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29. The Men in Blue are the only undefeated team in the tournament, while the defending champions secured only one victory.

The home team might consider picking three spinners in the upcoming match, considering the spin-friendly conditions in Lucknow. Ravichandran Ashwin was included in the playing XI against Australia, where he picked up 1 wicket for 34 runs in his 10-over quota.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasn’t provided an official update about the injury status of ace all-rounder Hardik Pandya. However, the new reports suggest that the Indian vice-captain might miss the next two matches against England and Sri Lanka.
