Ollie Pope missed out on a double hundred as he was clean bowled on 196 off Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery. The 26-year-old batter played a sensational innings against India in the third innings and frustrated the Indian bowlers for a long time. Ollie Pope was trying to reverse scoop Jasprit Bumrah and completely missed the delivery and lost his off stump to the Indian speedster.

Jasprit Bumrah finished with a four-fer on this spin-friendly wicket and ended Ollie Pope’s innings just four runs short of what could have been the latter’s second double-century in Test cricket. The batter scored 196 off 278 deliveries at a strike rate of 70.5 and his innings included 21 boundaries. He was involved in four 50+ partnerships in the innings. Ollie Pope smashed his fifth century in Test cricket and played a sensational innings.

Ollie Pope has provided England with a chance for a fightback against India in the first Test with his innings. India needs to chase a target of 231 runs in the fourth innings to win the first Test match against England in the five-match Test series. India scored 436 runs in the first innings which led to a 190-run lead and in response England was bundled for 420, all credit to the 196-run knock played by Ollie Pope.

Jasprit Bumrah performed brilliantly with the ball and took a four-fer in the first Test against England. He has taken six wickets in the match including the two wickets he took in the first innings. He took Rehan Ahmed and Ben Stokes in the first innings and got the wickets of Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Rehan Ahmed and Ollie Pope in the second innings. He is the only fast bowler who has got wickets in this match with Mark Wood and Mohammed Siraj being wicketless.

India needs 231 runs to win the first Test which is being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Ollie Pope was dismissed for just a run in the first innings as he was caught at slips by Rohit Sharma off Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery. However, he settled it with a 196-run knock in the second inning. He has taken England to a reasonable total which can be defended by the bowlers.

After the first Test, India and England will move to Vishakhapatnam for the second Test starting on February 2, Friday. The other three Tests will be played at the Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamsala respectively. India has not lost a home Test series since 2012 when they were last defeated by England. The hosts have won 16 consecutive Test series at home and have played some of the best red-ball cricket in the subcontinent. They are cruising towards victory in the first Test and will hope to win the match with a good margin.
