Speaking about the IND vs ENG pitch, it showed signs of turn right from the first session. Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel took eight wickets together in the match with Jasprit Bumrah taking two. The veteran Indian spinner after the match spoke about how the pitch behaved giving us a glimpse as to what to expect from the remaining four days.
“It was pretty interesting in the first session, maybe there was a bit of moisture. Because of the early moisture, there was enough speed in the pitch in the first session. Then it slowed down. The ball that spun … not enough speed to carry through to the slip fielders. You need to mix your pace up and be extremely consistent for you to not be giving runs in this pitch” said Ashwin.
With the kind of turn and bounce that was visible on day 1, only more turn and bounce can be expected in the remaining four days. The pitch is expected to turn even more with it getting even more slower as the game progresses. That is the general rule of pitches in India when a Test match is played.
