IND vs IRE Match Preview- ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Match 8

India

India are led by Rohit Sharma in this tournament. He led the team in the T20 World Cup 2022 and the ODI World Cup 2023.

Not being able to win the finals of ICC tournaments has been a major problem for the Indian side. They have not won an ICC title for the last 10 years.

The BCCI has chosen a balanced Indian squad that has enough depth in batting and bowling. The major concern though is with the recent form of a few players. The opening combination has been a subject of debate.

While Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the more obvious combination, some former Indian cricket experts are backing Rohit and Virat Kohli to open together. This is based on Kohli's recent form in the IPL.

Another major point of debate is whether India will play Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal together in the XI. Chahal was recalled into the Indian T20I side based on his consistent performances in the IPL in the last two years. The good thing though is that the Indian bowling attack is a very experienced lineup.

India Squad

Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj.

Reserves: Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan

Ireland

Paul Stirling leads Ireland. As a side, the Irish team have plenty of players who played in the last two World Cups. Having played regularly in ICC tournaments, the Ireland team has often beaten big teams and made headlines.

They have a big opportunity to qualify for the next round if they can beat teams like Canada, USA, and Pakistan. Ireland have beaten Pakistan in ICC events in the past.

In recent form, Ireland has things to think about. They lost 2-1 to Pakistan with their experienced players not being able to win the series for them.

Against India, they are yet to win in T20Is. In seven games, the Men in Blue have won six. They lost in back-to-back T20I series in 2022 and 2023.

Ireland Squad

Paul Stirling (c), Mark Adair, Ross Adair, Andrew Balbirnie, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Graham Hume, Josh Little, Barry McCarthy, Neil Rock, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Ben White, Craig Young

India vs Ireland Key Battles

Rohit Sharma vs Josh Little

Rohit Sharma was dismissed several times by left-arm pacers in the recently concluded IPL season and hence this battle will be an interesting one.

Virat Kohli vs Josh Little

The left-arm angle has posed problems for Kohli as well in the last and the Ireland pacer will look to get the former Indian skipper knicked off in the slips.

Harry Tector vs Jasprit Bumrah

Tector is among the upcoming batters in the Ireland team. He has a good technique and hence he will be tested by the Indian pacer Jasrit Bumrah.

Paul Stirling vs Kuldeep Yadav

The Irish skipper is among the top-scorers in T20I cricket and hence his battle with Kuldeep Yadav will be a riveting one as well.

IND vs IRE Key Players

For India, as always Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been key players in ICC events. With the ball, Bumrah, Chahal, and Kuldeep will be key.

For Ireland, Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie, and Herry Tector will be key with the bat. With the ball, Josh Little, Craig Young Gareth Delany, and George Dockrell will be key.

IND vs IRE Weather and Pitch Report

Talking about the pitch, New York will host 8 matches, and all the matches will be played in drop-in pitches. After the tournament, the pitches will be replaced by artificial turfs. Given that it's T20I cricket, the pitch in Dallas had a nice bounce and carry and shot-making was easy. India scored over 182 against Bangladesh and defended it comfortably.

The weather conditions will be pleasant enough for the game. It will be sunny and warm with temperatures around 24 degrees in the morning.

Conclusion

Team India would like to make a good start. They will be eyeing a big win. Their good record against Ireland in T20Is would keep them in a comfortable position heading into the contest.
