Former India fast-bowler S Sreesanth has revealed his preferred India playing XI for their first game of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Team India will be opening their campaign in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup on Wednesday (June 5) by taking on Ireland in New York.
The Men in Blue will start the game as firm favorites and are expected to win the game. The Rohit Sharma-led side has also warmed up for the game in style by registering an impressive 60-run win over Bangladesh in their only practice game.
India thoroughly dominated the contest against the Bangla Tigers. Batting first, the 2007 T20 World Cup winners posted a competitive total of 182 for 5 with the likes of Rishabh Pant (53), Suryakumar Yadav (31), and Hardik Pandya (40*) making useful contributions with the bat.
In reply, Bangladesh finished their innings on 122/9. At one stage, Bangladesh were reeling at 41 for 5 and the 100-run mark was looking like a distant dream for them. However, they eventually managed to post a respectable total. For India, Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Dube picked up two wickets each.
S Sreesanth's preferred India Playing XI:
With just a couple of days before India take the field for their first game of the 2024 T20 World Cup, S Sreesanth has named the eleven players that he would like in the team. Speaking to Star Sports, the World Cup winner began by picking captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal as openers.
India had sprung a big surprise in the warm-up game by sending out Sanju Samson to open the innings along with Rohit. The move, however, did not pay off as Samson departed after scoring just 1. At number three, S Sreesanth went for Virat Kohli before picking Suryakumar Yadav.
The former pacer picked Pant over Samson as the wicketkeeper of the team while also snubbing Dube as he named Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja as the two all-rounders in the team. For the bowling department, S Sreesanth picked up two pacers - Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh - and two spinners - Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.
