India opener Ruturaj Gaikwad heaped praise on Rinku Singh after the latter’s impressive display with the bat against Ireland in the second T20I in Dublin on Sunday (August 20). Both the batsmen impressed with the bat as India thrashed the hosts by 33 runs to seal the three-match series with a match to go.

Rinku Singh made his T20I debut for India in the first match of the ongoing series but did not get the chance to bat as rain brought a premature end to the match. He finally got the chance to showcase his talent in the second game and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The left-handed batsman once again displayed his impressive finishing skills as he helped India post a 180-plus total.

Like he usually does, Rinku Singh started slowly with the bat. At the end of the 18th over, he was batting on 15 runs off 15 balls before shifting gears in the 19th over. Up against Barry McCarthy in the 19th over, the Uttar Pradesh star hit him for two sixes and a four as the team collected 22 runs off the over. He hit a six in the final over too before departing for 38 runs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad praises Rinku Singh:

Thanks to Rinku Singh’s explosive cameo as well as a vital contribution from Shivam Dube, India collected 42 runs in the last two overs and finished their innings on 185/5. In reply, Ireland finished their innings on 152/8 as India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Speaking after the game, Ruturaj Gaikwad was all praise for Rinku Singh. The Chennai Super Kings star stated that the youngster knows when to pull the trigger as he praised him for finishing skills with the bat. Ruturaj also mentioned Rinku Singh’s performance in this year’s IPL.

“Rinku has already become everyone’s favourite after this year’s IPL. He showed a lot of maturity while batting this year in the IPL. One of the standout things about Rinku is that he doesn’t attack from ball one. He always gives himself time. Whatever the situation is, he always assesses the condition and then he goes on the attack mode.

“So, I think this is a good thing to learn for all the upcoming players or people who want to be a finisher. It’s always important that you take some time and then you can always cover up later. So, this year he has learned this skill well. He knows when to pull the trigger. He pulls the trigger at the right time. It was an important innings for him, as it was his debut. And I feel, this will help him a lot,” said Gaikwad.

The third and final T20I between India and Ireland is scheduled to be played on August 23.
