IND vs IRE: Transition Is Terrific - Abhishek Nayar Lauds Rinku Singh’s Character

Cricketer-turned-commentator Abhishek Nayar has lauded Rinku Singh for the character he showed while batting during IND vs IRE 2nd T20I. Abhishek Nayar also praised Rinku Singh for sticking to his mindset even after reaching the international stage.

Rinku Singh played a valuable knock of 38 runs off 21 balls in the IND vs IRE 2nd T20I. He started slow hitting run-a-ball. However, towards the end, he shattered 3 sixes and 2 fours to register a strike rate of 180+. Later, the left-handed batter also won the Player of the Match award.

Rinku Singh Showed Terrific Character While Batting: Abhishek Nayar

While speaking to Jio Cinema, Abhishek Nayar heaped praises on Rinku Singh for his batting in the 2nd T20I against Ireland. Nayar said that he was pleased that the KKR batter followed his mindset on the international stage as well.

“I was happy and I was not surprised. I was pleased because he did what he had done everywhere. A lot of times when you start playing international cricket, your mindset changes. But this is his strength. He loves to give himself some time before he plays big shots unless the situation demands otherwise,” said the former left-handed batter.

Nayar, who has played 3 ODIs for India, also said that he was elated by Rinku Singh’s character while batting. He also added that it was heartening to see how Rinku faced bowlers with ease.

“I was very happy that he backed himself and believed that even after playing a run-a-ball, 14 I can capitalise. To back yourself for 14 deliveries and then take on the bowler and deliver the result that India desired shows a lot of character.

So, for me the performance was good but the character that Rinku Singh showed that the transition is terrific. The maturity and the ease with which he could rotate the singles and then take on the fast bowlers was heartening to see,” the 39-year-old concluded.

Rinku Singh made his impressive debut in IND vs IRE T20I series. The middle-order batsman got an opportunity to bat in only one game. He won the Player of the Match award in the match to grab the limelight. The 25-year-old player will next play for India during Asian Games 2023 in September.

Meanwhile, India crushed Ireland 2-0 in the T20I series. The IND vs IRE 3rd T20I was washed out due to rain. Earlier, India won the 1st T20I by 2 runs (DLS method) and 2nd T20I by 33 runs.
