Former Indian cricketer Abhishek Nayar lauded young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad for his half-century in the second T20I against Ireland in Dublin on August 20. Abhishek Nayar highlighted that Ruturaj Gaikwad displayed controlled aggression throughout his innings.

Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 58 runs off 43 deliveries, including six fours and a six. The right-handed batter added a 71-run partnership with Sanju Samson for the third wicket after an early collapse. Rinku Singh (38 off 21) finished well to help the team reach a total of 185 runs.

It Was A Mature Knock – Abhishek Nayar

During a discussion on JioCinema, Abhishek Nayar described Ruturaj Gaikwad‘s innings as a mature knock, hoping he would excel in international cricket.

“It was a mature knock. It was very Ruturaj Gaikwad. Normally in T20 cricket, from that position, he tends to get bigger eighties and he converts that into a hundred. The way he batted, there was controlled aggression.

“He is trying to find his way in international cricket. So it’s always good to get a fifty for India and you are going to always go stronger and stronger. We all know the potential he has. We all know the talent and his ability to convert scores,” he said.

The Jasprit Bumrah-led team restricted the opposition to 152/8 in 20 overs, securing a convincing 33-run victory. With this win, the visitors have sealed the three-match series 2-0.

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) assistant coach highlighted Ruturaj Gaikwad’s ability to score runs with a touch of “lazy elegance”, calling him a run machine.

“It’s good that he has started scoring runs because once he does, he is a machine. He keeps getting runs, keeps churning out big scores, but we got to see, what I call, lazy elegance. The amount of time he has, it was lovely to see Ruturaj get runs for India,” he concluded.

The Maharashtra-born cricketer scored 212 runs in 10 T20I innings with an average of 23.56 and a strike rate of 126.19. he smashed two half-centuries in his career. He will lead the national team at the upcoming Asian Games in China.

Following the series victory, the team management would consider making changes to the playing XI in the third and final T20I, which is scheduled to be played at the same venue on Wednesday, August 23.
