Virat Kohli received his ODI Cricketer of the Year award from the International Cricket Council (ICC) upon his arrival in New York for the T20 World Cup.

The Indian batting stalwart was the last to arrive in the United States of America for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which is co-hosted by https://cricketaddictor.com/west-indies-cricket-team/. Virat Kohli took a short break to spend time with his family after the hectic 2-month-long 2024 Indian Premier League season with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

After helping RCB reach the IPL 2024 Eliminator from being on the verge of not finishing in the top 4, Virat Kohli will shift his attention to National duty. Kohli has his sights set on the T20 World Cup title, something he hasn't won in his illustrious career yet.

The right-hand batter has been a part of two title-winning sides in 2011 and 2013 but he has never won the ultimate prize of the shortest format. Be it the World Cup or the Indian Premier League.

Virat Kohli becomes the best ODI cricketer of 2023

While the 2023 Calendar year brought a lot of grief for the Indian team in terms of winning major ICC silverware, Virat Kohli had an extra-ordinary season. Since last year was the year of the ODI World Cup, Kohli toppled all the challenges that came his way, and as usual, finished as the best player.

Virat Kohli finished the 2022 season on a high note by scoring several centuries in 50-over cricket towards the end of the year. As soon as the 2023 season started, Kohli knew what he had to do. In his last ODI of 2022, Kohli scored 113 runs during a series in Bangladesh, and in his first ODI match of 2023, the batter would again smack 113 against Sri Lanka.

He followed that up with a sensational 166 knock in the 3rd ODI against the Lankans. After that, he played 2 ODI series against Australia and New Zealand before the IPL 2023 season. Then during the Asia Cup 2023, Virat Kohli had only one centurion knock of 122* against arch-rivals Pakistan and he entered the CWC 2023 on home soil in the best possible form.

Virat Kohli scored his 48th, 49th, and 50th ODI century during the World Cup against Bangladesh, South Africa, and New Zealand respectively. While he lost the World Cup final to Australia in Ahmedabad Virat Kohli finished the edition as the highest run-scorer with 765 runs.

Overall, Kohli scored 1377 runs from 24 ODI innings last year at an average of 72.47 with 6 centuries and 5 half-centuries to his name. For that, he received the best ODI player of the year.

While picking up the award, Virat Kohli can be heard saying "God's Plan", a term coined by none other than Rinku Singh after winning IPL 2024.
