Team India skipper Rohit Sharma gave an autograph to Nepal cricketer Sandeep Lamichanne following the India-Nepal match in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. However, Rohit Sharma received criticism across social media platforms for his gesture to Sandeep Lamichanne.

Lamichhane, who is accused of raping a minor, is currently out on bail, with the final judgement pending in the Kathmandu District Court. He was initially stripped of his captaincy and banned from international cricket. However, the ban was lifted in January of this year.

The viral pictures on microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter) captured a significant moment where Rohit Sharma graciously signed Sandeep Lamichhane’s jersey. The former Nepal captain can be seen smiling during this meeting with the Team India skipper.

The incident took place following the India-Nepal game at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka on Monday, September 4. The Nepal spinner failed to make an impact with the ball in the match, as he conceded 39 runs in just 4 overs without picking any wickets.

Earlier, the Scotland men’s cricket team refused to shake hands with Sandeep Lamichhane after their match in Kirtipur on February 17. Scotland captain Richie Berrignton extended his hand for a handshake but did not shake the right-arm leg spinner’s hand after the match.

The India cricket team beat the Nepal cricket team by 10 wickets in a rain-curtailed game in Pallekele. The Indian bowlers bundled the opposition out for 230 runs in 48.2 overs. Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets each in the encounter.

Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill helped the team chase down the target, which was revised to 145 runs in 23 overs. Rohit scored an unbeaten 74 runs off 59 balls, including five sixes and six boundaries. India advanced to the Super Four stage with the victory.
