In a massive boost for the India National Cricket Team, star wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has cleared his fitness test and will soon join the squad for Asia Cup 2023, according to reports in TOI.
India suffered a major setback ahead of Asia Cup 2023 as KL Rahul was ruled out of the first two matches of the continental tournament due to a fresh niggle that he had picked up.
Rahul had fully recovered from the thigh injury he sustained during IPL 2023. However, during the Asia Cup squad announcement press conference, chief selector Ajit Agarkar revealed that the wicketkeeper-batter has picked up a new niggle. He didn’t travel with the team to Sri Lanka and continued working with the physios at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

According to TOI, KL Rahul, who was suffering from a minor groin injury, cleared his fitness test on Monday at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He is set to join the squad for the rest of the Asia Cup 2023 on Tuesday.
“Rahul cleared his fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (in Bangalore) today. He’ll join the team on Tuesday,” a source in the BCCI confirmed to TOI.
In the absence of KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan was handed the wicket-keeping gloves and he batted at the No.5. He looked confident and scored runs with a good strike rate against Pakistan under pressure.
The wicketkeeper-batter scored 82 runs off 81 balls, with 9 fours and 2 sixes, and was involved in a remarkable 138-run partnership with Hardik Pandya that brought them back into the game after they were left tottering at 66/4. The game between the arch-rivals, however, was washed out as rain played spoilsport.
Meanwhile, Rahul’s recovery is good news for the BCCI selection committee as they will be announcing India’s squad for the World Cup on Tuesday.
