Indian Cricket Team had a topsy-turvy tournament where they failed at the crucial junctions. The Men in Blue would be crestfallen as once again they have to go back to the drawing board. It was Rohit Sharma’s first stint in the ICC Tournament where he was seen struggling with the bat in hand.

India’s main problem throughout the tournament was that the openers didn’t take the team to a flyer. Apart from the half-century against Bangladesh, KL Rahul had a forgettable tournament and now there are chances that the selection panel takes tough calls.

Kris Srikkanth on Hardik Pandya

Kris Srikkanth was having an interaction with Star Sports and was asked about Hardik Pandya.

“See if I was the Chairman of the selection committee, I would say that Hardik Pandya should be the captain of the 2024 World Cup, straight away, I’d put it that way – number one.

“And start rebuilding a side right from today, that is from the New Zealand series which is going to happen in a week’s time. You start from today, the preparation for the World cup, you need to understand, starts 2 years in advance,” said Kris Srikkanth.

“So, you do whatever you want to do, the trial and error policy, do whatever you want, try it for one year, then you form a team and by 2023 make sure this is going to be at the level that is going to play the World Cup,” he added.

Hardik Pandya An Interesting Prospect

The flamboyant all-rounder has developed his game immensely in recent times as he is looking like a man on a mission. Pandya has shown that he can contribute in all facets of the game. The way he struck a half-century against England in the Semi Final says a lot about his game plan as scoring was not easy.

The Selection panel should not play musical chairs as sticking to one captain will keep the team in good stead. As we all know that Hardik Pandya is a bit injury prone; in that case, the selection panel will have to be careful in managing his workload.
