Indian Cricket Team suffered a massive defeat against New Zealand in the 1st ODI Match. The Men in Blue weren’t able to defend a mammoth target of 307 runs. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan looked quite frustrated as the bowlers were not able to pick wickets at regular intervals.

New Zealand on the other hand, would be over the moon as not many gave them a chance after losing 3 key early wickets inside 20 overs. Skipper Kane Williamson and the dashing left-handed batter Tom Latham were involved in a record 221 runs partnership as they hunt down the target with 2.5 overs remaining.

Shikhar Dhawan in Elite List

Shikhar Dhawan played an attacking knock of 72 runs in 77 balls and would rue that he missed a golden opportunity to get a century. The left-handed batter has breached the 12,000 Run mark across their List A Career in his 297 List A matches. The batter has become the 7th Indian batter to score more than 12,000 List A runs and has joined greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly Yuvraj Singh & MS Dhoni.

Tough Loss for India

The Men in Blue would be utterly disappointed with their performance. The batters showed great character as the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill & Shreyas Iyer struck half-centuries and were quite aggressive in their approach.

The team allowed Williamson & Latham to get their eye in rather than picking up wickets. It won’t be wrong to say that the strategy of playing with only 5 bowlers hurt the team as now there are chances that the management may drop one batter to play an all-rounder.

Head Coach VVS Laxman will have to pull a rabbit out of the hat because as of now New Zealand is looking unstoppable. At one stage the required run rate was 8 yet the Black Caps didn’t panic which says a lot about their dynamics.

The decision to drop Neesham from the playing 11 was quite astonishing as the all-rounder is someone who can easily take the game away from the opposition.
