India National Cricket Team have emerged as one of the top fielding teams in the ongoing edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup. In their first four matches of the competition, the Indian players were excellent on the field, but that wasn’t the case in their fifth match as the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja dropped easy catches.

The 21st match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is currently underway between the Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Tom Latham-led New Zealand National Cricket Team at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, October 22.

India won the toss and elected to field first in the match. They got off to a good start by dismissing the New Zealand opener for low scores. However, after that Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell led New Zealand to recovery and the poor fielding by the Indian players helped them in doing so.

India’s top fielders dropped several catches in the match and one of the simplest ones was dropped by Jasprit Bumrah near the boundary ropes. Daryl Mitchell smashed a Kuldeep Yadav delivery towards long-off boundary and Bumrah ran to get into position but he was unable to hold onto the catch.

Looking at Jasprit Bumrah drop a simple catch, Virat Kohli and Kuldeep Yadav were in disbelief while captain Rohit Sharma was absolutely livid.

Daryl Mitchell made most of the opportunity he got and gave a tough time to the Indian bowlers. He smashed 130 runs off 127 balls, with 9 fours and 5 sixes. He was involved in a sensational 159-run partnership in 152 balls with Rachin Ravindra, who scored 75 runs off 87 balls, with 6 fours and 1 six.

Daryl Mitchell became only the second New Zealand batsman to score a century against India in the World Cup after Glenn Turner, who hit a World Cup hundred against India in 1975 in Manchester. This was also his 4th ton in ODIs in 2023.

The Black Caps posted 273 runs on the board riding on the innings from Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra. For India, Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged a sensational 5-wicket haul.
