IND vs NZ: "We Can't Play In The T20 Mode Straightaway In Fifty Overs"- Shreyas Iyer

Indian Cricket Team suffered a massive defeat against New Zealand in the 1st ODI. New Zealand won the match by 7 wickets with 2.5 overs left and made a statement that they are not done yet. India’s dashing batter Shreyas Iyer played a terrific knock of 80 runs in 76 balls where he smashed 4 fours and 4 sixes and was looking quite ominous
The Men in Blue would be wondering how they lost the match after picking up 3 wickets inside 20 overs. It won’t be wrong to say that India missed a 6th bowling option in the match. We should not forget that India had the services of Yuzvendra Chahal & Shardul Thakur who are quite experienced.
Shreyas Iyer on Match
Shreyas Iyer was having an interaction with the media after the match and was asked about the approach. “The approach is optimistic always. I don’t like to look ahead too much. The thing that is in my hand is to train. I want my fitness levels to be good despite the back-to-back games. I want to perform consistently. I want to stay in the present. The players will come and go but consistency will matter,” said Shreyas Iyer.
“We learnt that when we got the wicket, we could have built on the pressure. But the way Latham got off to a start, we could have some attacking fielders. We could have put more pressure. But then it is a learning curve. It is not easy to keep the same intensity for the entire fifty overs. Their partnership got to 200, we got a big bogged down. It was a soft ground as well,” he added.
New Zealand on a Roll
The Black Caps won’t be able to believe that they pulled off a heist. New Zealand has now made a habit of throwing surprises as chasing the 307 runs was not easy on a bowling-friendly pitch. The team showed great fighting spirit as they didn’t panic even when the required run rate was at 8.
Skipper Kane Williamson silenced all the outside noise who were questioning his defensive approach. The management though would hope that the top order fires and lays a solid foundation for the rest of the batting lineup.
