Former cricketer Aakash Chopra stated that middle-order batters Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma haven’t secured a spot in India’s squad for the World Cup 2023. Aakash Chopra emphasized that the Asia Cup 2023 will provide them with an ideal opportunity to secure a berth in India’s squad.

Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma have been included in India’s 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, which is set to begin on August 30. One of Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav is likely to be picked in the starting XI for the first few matches of the upcoming continental tournament.

There Is No Other Cricket Left – Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra pointed out that the Rohit Sharma-led team will finalize their World Cup combination based on the performances in the Asia Cup.

“It is a phenomenal opportunity for Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, and even Ishan Kishan if he is batting in the middle order. You feel your name will come in the World Cup team but it hasn’t come yet,” Chopra said.

“There are many a slip between the cup and the lip. The Indian team will also think that you have kept them from the World Cup perspective and there is no other cricket left, so these are the opportunities,” he added.

The Asia Cup is set to take place in a hybrid format across Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 30 to September 17. While teams can opt for a squad of 17 members in the Asia Cup, they will pick 15 members for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Yuzvendra Chahal Does Everything – Aakash Chopra

The cricketer-turned-commentator said that the players can secure their berth in the squad for the World Cup by performing well in the upcoming matches. Chopra said that Yuzvendra Chahal missed the squad despite his strong performances in white-ball cricket.

“Whoever grabs his opportunities, there isn’t a scope for further discussion. You will have to announce the provisional team on September 5 and the final team by September 28. So you don’t have a lot of scope to deviate. So whoever grabs his opportunities here will play the World Cup and the World Cup is a huge thing.”

“There are many great Indian players who couldn’t reach the World Cup squad, VVS Laxman being one of those. You can ask Yuzi (Yuzvendra) Chahal, he does everything but as soon as the World Cup comes, his name doesn’t come or he is unable to play even if his name comes,” Chopra concluded

India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya (vc), Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Sanju Samson (traveling reserve).
