Renowned commentator Aakash Chopra feels that Indian players should put pressure on Pakistan in their upcoming Super Four clash in the Asia Cup 2023. Aakash Chopra highlighted that the Indian team have a good record against Pakistan in high-pressure encounters.
The group stage match between the two neighbouring nations was abandoned due to rain in Pallekele on September 2. The Men in Blue managed to score 266 runs in the allocated 50 overs. However, the rain didn’t allow a single delivery to be bowled in the second innings of the match.
We Have Seen Them Crumbling Under Pressure – Aakash Chopra
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra highlighted Pakistan’s limited success against India in World Cups. He emphasized that Pakistan tends to crumble under pressure, citing the previous encounter between the two teams.
“Why hasn’t Pakistan won too many matches against us in World Cups? They have won just one match against us in a World Cup, the one they won in the 2021 T20 World Cup. I agree they won by 10 wickets but before that and after that, they haven’t won,” Chopra said.
The Rohit Sharma-led team will face the Babar Azam-led team at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 10. India will be playing their first Super Four clash, while Pakistan heads into the match with a convincing victory against Bangladesh.
You Have Played Against Just Two Teams – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra acknowledged Pakistan’s top ranking in ODI cricket but highlighted their limited recent match exposure. The former Indian opener said that Pakistan played against New Zealand and Afghanistan in the past year
“Whichever team reaches the No. 1 position deserves and commands respect, and we should all appreciate that they have done very well. They played 14 ODIs in the last 12 months, won 10, lost three and there was a no-result against India,” he further added.
“Interestingly enough, they played six matches against New Zealand in Karachi and two more against New Zealand in Rawalpindi. They lost three in Karachi and won the rest. Other than that, you have played three more ODIs against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka. You won all these three games. So you have played against just two teams.”
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) added a reserve day only for the India-Pakistan game in the Asia Cup 2023. The two teams will square off once again in the ongoing continental tournament if both teams qualify for the final match.
