IND vs PAK: Danish Kaneria Slams Indian Selectors For Excluding Yashasvi Jaiswal From Asia Cup 2023 Squad

Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria expressed his disappointment with India’s squad selection for the upcoming Asia Cup, scheduled to begin on August 30. Danish Kaneria criticized the Indian selectors for excluding Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson from the squad for the continental tournament.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023. Middle-order batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have made their return to the squad, while Suryakumar Yadav has retained his place. Tilak Varma has received his maiden call-up to the national ODI team.

Yashasvi Jaiswal ‘Diggaj Ballebaaz’ – Danish Kaneria

In an interview with Timesnownews.com, Danish Kaneria stated that Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to make it into the squad for the Asia Cup 2023 despite being in tremendous form.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal diggaj ballebaaz, Test mein uchaal macha diya, T20 mein acha khela. Ek player jo form mein hai, jiske balle be ball acha lagta hai, usko aapne baahar kar diya team se,” Kaneria said.

Jaiswal made his Test and T20I debuts for India during the recent tour of the West Indies. The left-handed batter scored 171 runs in his debut inning in the first Test. He scored 266 runs in two Tests with an average of 88.67, including 1 century and 1 half century.

KL Rahul And Shreyas Iyer Lack Match Practice – Danish Kaneria

Danish Kaneria criticised the selectors for including Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul in the squad despite their lack of match practice. Kaneria said that Sanju Samson also failed to make an impact on the opportunities.

“Sanju Samson ko bade mauke diye gauye, usne opportunity ko grab nahi kiya. But still woh match khel raha tha. Aapne Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal ko baahar kar diya, aur KL Rahul aur Shreyas ko le aaye jo match practice mein nahi hai,” he added.

The Rohit Sharma-led team will kick off their campaign in the Asia Cup against Pakistan at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 2. The Men in Blue will take on Nepal in their next match at the same venue on Monday, September 4.
